Running Linux On The PS3
One of the great features of the Play Station 3 is that it can use Linux, which means that PS3 owners can customize their system and get lots more out of it. Gaming consoles are usually designed so that foreign systems can’t run on them, but the PS3 goes in the total opposite direction, allowing an experienced Linux user to personalize their system. Most gaming systems are “locked” so that other systems can’t be run, so PS3 is unconventional in allowing this. The only thing you can’t do on the PS3 is run accelerated graphics.
PS3 isn’t the first system to allow Linux. The xBox also has this feature, but the PS3 differs in a few ways. First off, the PS3 is more powerful. In addition, the xBox requires a certain chip to run Linux, whereas the PS3 can run it without. In fact, it’s totally free to run Linux on the PS3.
Upgrading The Hard Drive In Your Play Station 3
Good news for Play Station 3 users: You do not have to settle for the puny 20 or 40 GB hard drive that comes with your PS3. The Play Station 3 allows you to take out and hot-swap your hard drive, and it’s not that hard to do. This means that you can upgrade your PS3 HDD to as much as a 200 GB hard drive, and maybe even more. You can keep more data from your games, files and other types of media on your Play Station 3 gaming console without making any major changes.
The Play Station 3 users’ manual actually tells you how to do it. There are three pages in the manual telling you step-by-step how to upgrade your hard drive, and it also tells you that you will not void your warranty, unless the new hard drive causes damage to the console somehow, which isn’t likely. However, it warns that if you have to take the console in to get fixed, you should put the old hard drive back in.
Why Do Japanese People Love The Nintendo Wii?
Two weeks after it was released in the US, the Nintendo Wii came out in Japan, and consoles flew off the shelves. First-hand reports I heard from Akihabara (the major electronics district of Tokyo) and Shinjuku (another big shopping area) said that you could hardly walk down the sidewalk anywhere near an electronics store.
Japanese people love video games and, although Play Station 3 and XBox 360 have sold well in Japan, without a doubt the most popular is the Nintendo Wii. You couldn’t escape the ads for Wii anywhere last year, and it was all Japanese video gamers were talking about. So, why do Japanese people love the Nintendo Wii so much? Continue reading
Dead Rising Game Review
Capcom know their zombies. If you’re a Resident Evil fan, you may think you know Capcom’s zombies, in which case Dead Rising is going to come as a surprise. This is zombie high camp, played for laughs not chills. It’s played just right too, and aside from one major technical niggle, this is a game that’s all about fun.
Dead Rising rapidly drops your character, photojournalist Frank West, in the middle of the zombie’s natural environment, the suburban mega-mall. Nearly everything in the mall is available for use in vanquishing hordes of zombies, and when you’re tired of the obvious, like literally mowing them down, you can take a break from guns, sports equipment, and gardening tools, and challenge your creativity. Just how much damage can you do with a couple of gallons of cooking oil and a carnie mask? Continue reading
Nintendo Wii: Purchasing Tips for a Great Deal
There is always at least one constant in the world of game console launches: shortages. It is no different this time around as all 3 of the big name consoles, the Microsoft XBOX360, the Sony PlayStation3, and the Nintendo Wii, can’t seem to keep up with the high demand. Nintendo executives were prepared for potential shortages, and produced millions of consoles for the launch of the Nintendo Wii. What they weren’t prepared for was the overwhelming demand for their new console.
Nintendo expected to have over 4 million units available worldwide for the launch period. That is from its initial launch on November 19, to Christmas. So far every shipment made from Nintendo to the retailers has sold out within 24 hours of arrival on the store shelves. It may be quite tricky to get your hands on a Wii before Christmas. This article will provide you with some tips with regards to purchasing a Wii. Continue reading
How To Burn Or Copy XBox 360 Games
You can burn and copy (for backup purposes) your XBox 360 games, but it takes a little doing. It’s not as easy as plopping it in and hitting “start.”
There are 2 ways to copy games: you can copy games to your XBox hard drive, or you can use a PC. If you want to burn a copy of your games, you have to use a PC, and the process is a little more complicated. I’ll probably say it again later, but you have to have a modded XBox to play copied games. The system is designed so that it won’t play copied games, so if you plan on doing this, make sure your XBox has a mod chip first. Otherwise it won’t work!
