Video games from the dreamy 1980’s are back courtesy a California company. This company sees profit in retro nostalgia rather than futuristic vision. Founded by Michael Ware, an ex Intel engineer, this business is internet based.
The project began 5 years back as a gift for his wife who just could not get over Pacman, and now has blossomed into a full time business which focusses on New age expressions of 1980’s video games.
Dream Arcades is the name of the firm. The owners are Michael Ware and his wife Michelle. Big and huge bulky arcade game are produced by this firm playing games like Pacman, Asteroids and Centipede, some of the favorites of those growing up in the 1980’s.
The people being targeted by Dream Arcades are 30 somethings and 40 somethings who want to relive their childhood days. The game of Dream Arcades is nostalgia. Although nostalgia has great marketing value, Michael Cai, someone in the know says that it is not a mainstream sales item. It caters to only a small segment of the gaming world.
Meanwhile Michael and Michelle Ware are making their consoles with melamine coated fiberboard. They run on MS Windows and the Nintendo Wii and other popular game consoles can be operated by it. Also table top versions are available for sale.
