When it is time to get
serious about purchasing
a new gaming console
then you need to
consider a great number
of things to make sure
that you are getting
everything you want out
of your system. While
Nintendo has a great
reputation and history
in the video gaming
industry, it has also
taken criticism recently
for falling behind in
the video game arms race
that calls for more
power and realism. One
of the biggest
competitors to the
Nintendo Wii is the now
nearly year-old Xbox
360, made by Microsoft.
Here is a comparison of
the two systems:
Ø
One of the biggest
concerns with a new
console purchase is the
affordability of the
product itself; can you
really get it without
going into debt?
Nintendo Wii wins this
category in a landslide
at first glance with a
box price of $249 for
the system and a generic
sports game. Xbox 360
has different packages,
$299 being the cheapest
(a core system with no
hard drive) and $399 is
an affordable package
that gets you 20GB of
hard drive along with
all the other bells and
whistles.
Ø
Nintendo Wii offers one
thing that Xbox 360 most
certainly does not, a
remote controller that
is special because of
its use of motion
detection technology.
With this remote you can
swing the golf club,
throw the baseball, or
shoot your opponent with
a simple point and
click. Xbox 360 is
certainly not a pushover
in this category and
actually produces a
great product regardless
of the fact that it does
not use motion detection
technology.
Ø
If you are buying this
video game console for
young children then it
might be a good idea to
invest in the Nintendo
Wii instead of the Xbox
360 simply based on game
friendliness. Xbox 360
is mainly marketed by
Microsoft towards an
older audience that can
both afford the system
and play games that are
based on adult
situations or casualties
of war. With Nintendo
Wii you will have many
more options for your
young child to keep them
happy and you without a
worry in your mind.
Ø
Microsoft has separated
itself from the rest of
the gaming industry with
the introduction of
“Xbox Live” which allows
gamers to play with each
other in a live, online
community. While
Nintendo Wii does not
offer the ability to
compete against others
that may be playing the
Wii at the same time, it
does offer some great
online capabilities.
For instance, you can
surf the net and even
purchase old Nintendo
titles for a few dollars
apiece in a virtual
store and download them
to your system. Cheap
and accessible fun is
great for both parents
and children!
If you are still unsure
of which system that you
should go with then you
should visit your local
electronics retailer and
see if you can play a
demo in the store. The
comfort and ease of the
system could help you
make the right choice in
regards to the purchase.
