Controversial Video Games
There have been a number of controversial video games released lately. One begins to wonder is this is part of the marketing and arrives at the answer…yes it is. But how much should the video game makers sacrifice of ethics to make their video games sell? Rapelay is one such video game on the subject of rape. It has sparked a huge amount of discussion on the internet and sparked a furore when it became available on Amazon.com
There are other topics that scout controversy. The recent video game on a Hindu god sparked outrage among groups who felt it was a topic that should be left untouched. A video game depicting Jesus fighting Mohammed was withdrawn after protests. There are many more such games out there.
Six days in Fallujah was going to be widely distributed. It was cancelled. Not only was the content controversial, but the release was wide and the subject was a current war. You have to be careful given that such things can be read in a wrong manner. If interest groups have money, lawsuits will flow.
Everyone has a different view of video games such as these. Some say they do more good than evil, some say they do more evil than good. Blame capitalism.
