Free PS3 HD Movies
When Sony’s PS3 was first released, much was made of the blu-ray disc format that enables you to watch movies in a far higher resolution than DVD. However, even if you don’t have a High Definition (HD) television connected to your PS3, or you don’t feel the benefits of blu-ray disc are part of your needs right now, you can still watch high-definition movies on and about your PS3 with a variety of sources.
One of the ways to do this is to use the machine’s online browser and go to the PS3 homepage. Here you will find the latest trailers of the upcoming games for the system, as well as demos and movie clips as well, all in glorious HD. You can even download these to your console’s hard drive to either watch later, or play at a later date, if it’s a game demo for instance. Of course, this won’t mean that much if you don’t have an HD TV to start with…
However, even if you don’t have an HD compatible television to benefit fully from using your PS3 as a browser, you can still watch the latest details about PS3, it’s games, it’s upcoming releases and other similar features, ALL in HD, by using your simple PC. With the improved resolution that a computer monitor has always had, you can point your web browser at various gaming websites to check out the latest news and movies, and see what your PS3 can be capable off with the right set-up.
If you visit Gamespot.com and click on their PS3 button, you’ll be taken to an area where you can download and watch trailers for the latest games such as ‘Army Of Two’ from Electronic Arts, or the port of the Xbox 360 game ‘Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion’. There are also interviews with the likes of Sony head honcho Phil Harrison, as well as an HD trailer for this summer’s movie blockbuster ‘Spiderman 3′. The only downside is that you have to join Gamespot.com first to enable this.
Another extremely popular site is Gametrailers.com, which not only covers the PS3 but many other systems as well, including handhelds. One of the really good things about this particular site is that not only does it allow you to see the latest game trailers, but also many other excellent features such as developer graphic demos, advertising from around the world, and industry show reels from videogame conferences such as the Consumer Electronics Show, or CES.
Perhaps the most popular site is the IGN.com, a well-respected specialist games and new media site which has been running for several years. Once again, this website offers a slew of trailers, demos and video reviews, as well as links to other multimedia features that your PS3 can do. However, you do need to subscribe to IGN.com, which is $19.95 for a year.
So, even if you don’t have a high definition TV system set up yet, using your home computer to see what your PS3 is truly capable of displaying may just change your mind.
