The worlds leading information and communications event is the BETT.The BETT educational technology fair in London this January comes with a message. The message is simple - chalky blackboards and textbooks are a thing of the past as far as school learning goes.
Through the BETT fair teachers can explore technology that they do not see every day. This year there will be 600 exhibitors. One of the items on display is the RM Asus miniBook. Valued at 1699 pounds, it allows students to access the web, type assignments and send emails.
With the miniBook pupils can access Kaleidos - a virtual learning environment. Activexpression is another device that is likely to be very popular. It enables the projection of graphics from the teachers laptops onto the whiteboard. It is all about involving the students.
Another breakthrough thing that is happening is with the Sony PSP. It was originally made to allow children to play games on the move. Now it is being made in a way as to help the childs education. Children are used to the PSP. It is based on video, vastly different from static virtual learning environments. With 2.5 million children playing games on the PSP, it can be the ideal tool to give them education as well.
