There is no question
about it, the gaming
world has changed from
what we knew upon its
inception and some have
taken advantage while
others have fallen
behind. When video game
consoles first hit the
stores and then for the
15 to 20 years
thereafter the games
were always aimed
primarily at younger
players.

Then Sony and Microsoft
stepped up to the plate
and gaming has not been
the same since, it
became about targeting
an older audience and
gearing everything
towards them. Now, the
nearly forgotten giant
in video gaming is back
and swinging a different
type of stick.
Nintendo was at one time
the name to beat in the
video game wars by
having such giant titles
as Super Mario Brothers,
Zelda, and Tetris all to
themselves, but have
lost out in recent
years. Now, Nintendo
has returned to its
roots with the Nintendo
Wii, a gaming console
aimed at a younger
audience and created by
doing what Nintendo does
best, making a very user
friendly environment
exciting to play games
in! Here are a few
things you should know
about the newest entry
for Nintendo into the
gaming world, the
Nintendo Wii:
Ø
Nintendo
Wii isn’t only the most
user friendly when you
get it home and actually
begin to play a game; it
is user friendly right
off of the store shelf.
Coming in at $249,
Nintendo Wii is roughly
half of the other major
consoles on the market
today, what could be
better?
Ø
Another
way that Nintendo Wii
separates itself from
the competition is by
returning to their roots
in a more literal way
and getting nostalgic.
Nintendo Wii features a
Wii Channel called
“Virtual Console” which
allows you to purchase
old Nintendo, Super
Nintendo, Nintendo 64,
and Sega Genesis games
for a few bucks and play
them right there on the
Nintendo Wii! Who
wouldn’t want another
round of Double Dragon?
Ø
Nintendo
Wii is able to be
wirelessly connected to
your home network with a
built-in 802.11 b/g
network adapter. What
this means for you is
that you can be
connected with the
outside world and
actually surf the web
right from your Nintendo
Wii with your wireless
controller. Forget
leaving the living room
to log on to the
internet!
Ø
What
Nintendo Wii is really
proud of is their
innovative motion
detection controller
that will allow you to
really be a part of the
games. If you are
playing a football game
then you drop back and
throw the pass, Nintendo
Wii will do the rest.
If you are golfing, you
might want to work on
your swing, it will show
in your ability just as
it is. No more blaming
the computer, it is
really your turn!
Ø
Nintendo
Wii features several
extra options with your
Wii Channels including
live news and weather
updates in addition to
the ability to text
message to a cell phone
right from the main
screen! Leave it to
Nintendo to think of
something to break the
mold!
